Comfort food:

Tarporley Pizza recipe

Tonight I will have my family back.  Hubby will be home from London and teen  will emerge from a week of GCSE exams (maths today, pronounced as “s’easy”). So, I think we are all in need of some comfort food. In our house, these have always been called “Tarporley Pizza”, in honour of the enormous pizza whirls we used to buy from the bakers , when my “little girl” really was little on our weekly jaunts to Tarporley. Nowadays I make them smaller, but the recipe is pretty much unchanged. This version makes about 30 depending on the size you make them. You can embellish with addition of chopped anchovies, black olives or bacon, but in  our house we like them just as they are.

Method:

Roll out a sheet of ready made puff pastry (say what you like – life’s too short)

frozen puff pastry

Spread with tomato puree

Top with grated cheese (this is a hard goats cheese)

grated cheese on pastry

Roll up, like making a swiss roll  and slice about 1cm thick, put on a baking tray and bake in a hot oven for 10 – 15 minutes (depends on size).

puff pastry with tomato

Eat hot.

  • Passionflower. One of the joys of our holiday this year was stumbling across the unexpected. We walked past a garden fence covered in these flowers & their ripening fruit. In my schoolgirl French I asked the elderly gentleman if I could take a photo, in better English than my French he invited us in to admire his plot. You can read more about him on the blog, where I've also been writing about how having too much can be a good thing - even if you're a minimalist!

Finally got a photo of me wearing my new sweatshirt, bought from @mirandagorebrowne I ♥♥♥ it so much. The fabric is soft, it fits really well and now washed 3 times it still looks like new! Go buy one before they sell out (also available: "nice buns" & "jammy dodger")

#beautyintheordinary #simplethings #simpleliving #slowliving #colourinspiration #wildflowers #keepthewildinyou Finding beauty in the ordinary. This is the doorstop that held open the shutters at our holiday home, the rose had the most amazing scent. Over the next few days I'm going to share more pics of the hidden spaces and small corners of this beautiful house. This was a slow holiday in the best possible way. We did plenty, but at our own pace. We strolled down cobbled streets, we explored tiny village markets and ate delicious locally grown veg, farmhouse cheese and charcuterie that would give the health and safety police nightmares!!! In other news, new book is going well but as I can't really share progress crochet pics might be sparse for a while.
