This Week I’m Loving …

I’m loving the run up to Christmas;  baking, cooking for the freezer, finishing off the home made decorations, bottling my Limoncello and taking time to savour the Christmas issues of some of my favourite magazines full of inspiring makes and tempting recipes. A special mention for “Thrifty Issue” of Handmade Living magazine which kept me occupied all the way to Manchester on a recent train journey. Check it out on Yudu I took out a subscription earlier this year at Woolfest and I haven’t been disappointed.

I have also discovered some fabulous blogs recently, do take a look for yourself at these talented people who brighten my days.

Let’s start with Tabatha and Julia, who write a fabulous sewing blog. This might just inspire me to sew my way into 2012. Tabatha said such lovely things about my crochet mittens patterns she has earned a special honorable mention!

Next up is a blog I discovered during the Great British Bake Off. Mary Anne was one of my favourite contestants, always surprising Paul and Mary with her flavour combinations and technical achievements. Her luxury mince pie recipe had me drooling today.

Finally, I’ve mentioned Regula’s blog before, but if you missed the beautiful photos  of her trip to Tuscany, do go back and see what you’ve been missing. Her photography is stunning and she writes in an easy conversational style I love.

So there you are, three terrific blogs you may not have come across before. Do let me know if you have any favourites of your own. Meanwhile I’m off to finish my Christmas knitting …

  2. I got so engrossed in the other blogs, i nearly forgot to come back and leave a comment! It’s years since I did any dressmaking, but I could be tempted to start again after browsing through all the lovely things that Julia and Tabatha made!
I just bought the Thrifty handmade Living today – looking forward to reading it later. My limoncello and Turkish Delight vodka have a few more days to go before bottling – it has been difficult not to stick my finger in for a taste!!

  • First windfalls. We grew an apple tree from a pip when my daughter was just a tiny tot. It was one of the first things we planted when we moved into this house. A lot has happened in 20 years, this tree reminds me that gardening is about hope, optimism, unexpected gifts and finding beauty every day ... and patience - it was 15 years before this bore fruit!

Sometimes I'm in such a hurry to get my daily walk "out of the way" that I forget to just stop and look around me. Today I wandered down a different path and found a huge array of mushrooms, toadstools & fungi hiding in the leaf litter.
